I Don’t Believe in New Year’s Resolutions, I Believe In Birthday Resolutions

Every year around my birthday I set goals. I reflect on what I’ve done this past year and I try to challenge myself to do even better in my next year. Why do I choose my birthday instead of New Years? Well, because NYE doesn’t resonate with me. When my birthday hits I realize I’m about to be whole ‘nother year older and it kinda freaks me out. So, like the crazy person that I am, I plan. I plan for the year to come. Making objectives and setting goals to make sure I hit my marks just in case I croak this year. ….Yeah I know that’s f***ing morbid but it’s the truth. I’d like to know it did my best before I died so each year I make that my goal.

Here are some of my suggestions if you want to beef up your potential and set some personal goals for yourself around your birthday (or even New Year’s)

Career Goals

  • Where do you want to be by next year? New job? New career path? Want to go back to school or finish a degree? For me, this was about pushing myself and getting a job in the city with the big dogs. Now that I’ve done that I want to move up in my company by next year #goals

Weight Goals

  • Want to lose some weight? Set a number or a size. Decide what foods you’re going to try to decrease from your life. #nomorePSL’s I have a sweet tooth so this means #nomoredonuts4me I also really need to get back to the gym, the city life has changed me. #lazy

Hobby Goals

  • Stopped playing your favorite sport after high school? Find a local team near your area. Want to pick up a new sport? Make your goal to try a new hobby for X amount of time by next year- who knows you may actually love it! Clearly this was with my blog this year. My engagement was AMAZING but of course I want so much more. #comeloveme

#RelationshipGoals

  • Don’t be lazy and put yourself out there. We all can use help in this area. I’ve gotten through 20 out of my #50firstdates in the past year so at least I got somewhere (even though they all sucked and I’m back with my ex). It's about actually making the effort. Try to step out of your comfort zone and go for people who you may have not normally talked to in the past, it could lead somewhere!
